metres, at the confluence of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oued\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wadis<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dad%C3%A8s\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dades<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Imini&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Imini<\/a> forming the <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dr%C3%A2a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dr\u00e2a<\/a>It is the main urban centre in the river valley.<\/p><p>The town lies on the southern foothills of the central High Atlas, dominated to the west by the <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Djebel_Toubkal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toubkal<\/a> and to the north-east by the <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ighil_M%27Goun\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">M'goun<\/a>both of which reach heights of over 4,000 metres.<\/p><p>It is at the crossroads of the routes linking it to the north-west with <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marrakech\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marrakech<\/a> through the passes of the High Atlas, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tizi_n%27Tichka\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tizi n'Tichka<\/a> (2,260 metres); to the east at <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tafilalet\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tafilalet<\/a>to the south to the middle valley of \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dr%C3%A2a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dr\u00e2a<\/a>and beyond to the Saharan desert; and finally to the west towards the valley of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Souss\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Souss<\/a> and the Atlantic coast, bypassing the Jebel massif <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Djebel_Sirwa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Siroua<\/a>.<\/p><p>The urban area of Grand-Ouarzazate extends to the south side of the wadi with the village of <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tabount\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tabount<\/a> - sometimes referred to as \"Ouarzazate-Sud\" - which, along with the <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kasbah_de_Tifoultoute\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">kasbah of Tifoultoute<\/a>from the rural commune of <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tarmigt\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tarmigt<\/a>.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e7dc86d e-con-full class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">of Taourirt<\/span>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-38baa58 elementor-widget-laptop__width-initial entrance-bottom elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"38baa58\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Kasbah of Taourirt bears witness to the splendour of Amazigh architecture.<\/p><p>According to oral tradition, the kasbah was built in the 17th century by the Imzwarn, a powerful local family. But what is more certain is that the kasbah was taken over and enlarged by the Glaoui family in the 19th century. At the height of its importance in the late 19th century, the kasbah controlled an important location at the confluence of several river valleys - including the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Draa_River\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Draa<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dad%C3%A8s_River\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dades<\/a>- who were part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trans-Saharan_trade\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Saharan trade routes<\/a>. One of the members of the Glaoui family, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thami_El_Glaoui\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Thami El Glaoui<\/a>was famous for being the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pasha\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pacha<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marrakesh\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marrakech<\/a> for the duration of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/French_Protectorate_in_Morocco\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">French colonial domination<\/a>\u00a0on Morocco in the 20th century.<\/p><p>After the end of French colonial rule and the end of the Glaoui's control over the region, the kasbah began to deteriorate. In 1954, it was added to the list of Moroccan national heritage. In 1956, the property came under Moroccan state control, although it was returned to the Glaoui family in the early 1960s.<\/p><p>In 1972, the Glaoui family sold the kasbah to the municipality of Ouarzazate.<\/p><p>The site was abandoned until the late 1980s, and features traditional Berber architecture with its complex design and well-preserved structures.<\/p><p>The kasbah features red earth walls and beautiful cedar wood ceilings, making it an important cultural landmark.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>D\u00e9couvrez Ouarzazate et ses alentours Group 80-svg Retour aux alentours Pr\u00e9sentation d&rsquo;Ouarzazate Situ\u00e9e \u00e0 1 150 m\u00e8tres d&rsquo;altitude, \u00e0 la confluence des oueds Dad\u00e8s et Imini formant le Dr\u00e2a, elle est le principal centre urbain de la vall\u00e9e de ce fleuve.
